Emoticon

A set of characters commonly used in e-mail and USENET newsgroups to signify emotions. An emoticon can be as simple as including {TBA} or ;-) in the text, meant to indicate that the writer is joking, to some of the complex smiley faces, such as the wink ;-) or the frown :-( which are all meant to be read sideways.
